The PREVENT Waste Alliance serves as a platform for exchange and international cooperation, where organisations from the private sector, academia, civil society and public institutions jointly engage for a circular economy. PREVENT members contribute to minimising waste, eliminating pollutants and maximising the reutilisation of resources in the economy worldwide. The E-Waste Working group brings together over 50 members from 25 different countries to find solutions to sustainably managing e-waste in low and middle income countries. Key focal areas in our current pilot projects and exchanges are the finance and treatment solutions for problematics e-waste fractions (e.g. lithium ion batteries, refrigerator foams), implementing extended producer responsibility, and understanding how we can improve the implementation of the Basel Convention to facilitate the trade of recyclable e-waste fractions. The PREVENT Waste Alliance was launched in 2019 by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
