Malcolm Whitehouse

Malcolm Whitehouse

Malcolm Whitehouse

Business Development & Compliance Manager | AST Recycling

As Business Development & Compliance Manager for AST Recycling across Africa, I have facilitated positioning AST Recycling to become one of the largest and most compliant e-waste recyclers and ITAM specialists on the continent of Africa. Having achieved certification in ISO 9001, 14001, 27001, & 45001 since 2019 for the head office in Johannesburg and drawing from 11 years of expertise and lessons learnt, the company is well positioned to achieve this goal within the next 2 to 3 years. I am also a member of the R2 TAC (Technical advisory committee) that is developing R2V3 for global rollout. In South Africa I am part of the workgroup developing norms and standards for the EPR legislation (as a result of almost 7 years of intense participation in development of the Industry Waste Management Plan for E-Waste Management in SA), to facilitate the formalization of the all-important informal part and including the e-waste sector. Passionate about true empowerment, cleaning up of our environment, recovery of secondary resource materials and facilitating the growth of the company post Covid 19, I am confident that not only will AST Recycling help to clean up the environment, but will enable people to make a sustainable income from these activities for years to come and thus contribute to the circular economy of e-waste management, as true pioneers and agents of change to transition to the circular economy in e-waste management in Africa.
